Cape Town

Is this thing on? Been quite a while! I miss blogging so much - things have changed a bit in life as they always do and I no longer have my photographer (my husband!) to help me take pictures in the mornings like he used to. Conflicting schedules. It's been really hard to capture some of the stuff I've been wearing and buying in the recent months but TODAY my trusty assistant was on hand!

So lets chat for a minute! I am LOVING J.Crew. They have some standout pieces this year that are classic and chic. You spend a few bucks but you'll have them for years to come.
I have been purchasing their thin knits (that come in a SICK array of colors might I add!) which work for me all year long , this gorgeous cape trench that I am featuring today, an awesome chambray dress I haven't popped the tags off  of yet and this clean, striped menswear inspired button down also featured today.

I enjoy all kinds of fun looks when it comes to trends and fashion. I like stepping out of my box and doing different things but in general, my go to and very favorite way to dress is classic. Trench coats, button downs, neutrals, thin knits, sheath dresses -the staples.
While it might not necessarily be everyone's style - a few classics in your wardrobe will set you up to look amazing - even when you don't want to try. A few of my favorite stores that really feed my classic soul: J.Crew, Banana republic, Gap and LOFT.

Some things we should generally have in our closet:

- a quality black dress
- a blazer
- a thin knit sweater you can throw on in July at night or January under a coat
- a crisp white button down
- a great pair of go to jeans
- a  pair of comfortable flats or boots
- a nice jacket/ coat. A solid color - perhaps with some detail such as an exaggerated collar, maybe gold buttons or even a military inspired look.
 - Sunglasses! I can't even stress to you enough how much a great pair of sunglasses can elevate you INSTANTLY! Sweatpants, no makeup or totally glammed up. Please keep in mind, sunglasses are not just for warm weather. The sun shines ALL.YEAR.LONG.
Annnnnnd less squinting promotes less wrinkles. Need I say more?!

While the weather is still mild - I took advantage and wore my cape trench one more time before I put it in the back of my closet until October. :(

This look below  is from a few weeks ago on a rainy Friday. I went very relaxed with a top knot, t -shirt, jeans and converse sneakers. You can dress any trench up or down depending on how you style it. I would say it's a versatile piece you'll use most of the year.
